Hamilton Letterpress Double Wide, Type Cabinet with Typesetters Top

  

This is a Hamilton Type Cabinet. It has 48 spaces for drawers and 46 drawers. Most of the drawers are California job cases, but there are 6 drawers with different layouts, including on which has no spacings. Size 70" x 60" x 28.

The top has one side which has an angles surface where the typesetter can put copy and also a type drawer to work out of. The other side has a surface to hold job tickets and divided spaces for leads and slugs. In a typical print shopping the side with the spaces for leads and slugs would be next to a large composing stone, where your forms are made up. Condition is very good to excellent.

It has had years of usage in a busy letterpress show and has a patina of age. There is hand type in many of the drawers.

My guess is that it dates back to the late 20's or early 30's. It has been in storage since 1976. It is a great cabinet for a letterpress shop or for a variety of hobbies or industrial uses. It is priced very fairly for a period piece of American industrial furniture.
